Changing focal points Sunday 6th June 2010, 6:48 PM
I realise it's been a rather long time since I've wrote a blog, and you should assume they are getting less frequent. The last few weeks I have been sorting out funds for my new bike, a cbr600rr limited edition. It certainly is a stunner and I can see good times happening already.
Officially I havnt passed my test yet. I took part one about two weeks ago but sadly failed. The weight of the bike is about another third heavier than my old cbr125 and the emergency stop wasn't sharp enough. The rest was ok though, so have my second take tomorrow at Basildon test centre.
Should I pass part two will be arranged on the roads of Basildon and Ill be monitored on my real life road skills, I've been riding for a year so it's just fine tuning my skills.
My DJing skills are been much more frequently trained now with my new decks. What a nightmare burning discs and trying to keep up with your collection. I now just plug my iPod in and it pulls up all the albums, artists, playlists, albums and so on, so DJing has become so much more fun knowing that I have all my tracks in my pocket, but they do take CDs still .
Aside that i had a blast with Paul in Amsterdam, and saw Bjorn and Dima in Antwerp and they looked after me for the weekend. After my bike and insurance I don't think I'm going to have much money for many holidays this year.
Paul and I are getting closer to moving out together, sketching areas to live. Once Paul and i have reliable modes of transport we should be ready.
As the year comes to a cold end... Monday 21st December 2009, 8:54 PM
As the year of 09 ends it's always a good idea to look at the year and the accomplishments you have acheived, and also what the new year ahead you plan to acheive
I've inspired Paul and Brad to join the gym with me, ok, they both wanted to go, but I guess I gave them a little push to start. Either way were all getting healthier and on the way to a bit more buff . I now have a mode of transport,My sexy bike. I plan to take my direct access next year and most likely invest in something a bit more powerful, I like the idea of the m25 to make some of my journeys a bit quicker in time.
Looking for a partner will take less priority next year since I realise I spend a lot of time dating and whatnot, besides I want to spend more time travelling. Pauls chuffed with his tomtom I got him and he's determined to travel further. I also want to go to Europe, different parts of the US, so no time to be stuck at home on holidays.
Move out! This year it's got to happen, either with Paul or without, I need my own space and it's gotta happen soon. Life is becoming tainted as a guy who should have moved out and still hasn't, although people havnt said it, I feel like that guy. I don't want to be that guy.
I need to earn more money also. I like my wages I guess, but I need more money, I'm greedy, besides working more adds variety, gives me more friends and best of all gives me less time to spend it!
DerekHyams.com will he changing direction; I want it to be a bay for coding and tutorials, downloads and most of all my portfolio. I've studied and need to further myself in this sector, I need to focus on design and become a stable, all rounder. Codings fine, but it's the design bug I fail to capture, which I know I suffer in. Maybe Photoshop tutorials?
Either way, in sure I'll cope, I just want to be in a very different place this time next year....
Have a lovely Christmas everyone, I hope your new years just as enjoyable x
Trying a different direction... Sunday 6th September 2009, 8:02 PM
Its been so long since i wrote a blog, so thought id just add a little something here. Ive been up to a lot, Joining the gym, New phone, A small crash on my bike, out and about too. Its nice to have a speedy phone again, I invested into the iPhone 3GS and its not bad at all, the camera is great quality although, no flash, the movies are great quality and smooth, and overall pace of the phone is great. 3G and my network is a little patchy though, you can be in a static location sitting down somewhere and have full network with 3G, then all of a sudden it can be searching for a network, can be rather frustrating, conclusion; Edge, more coverage but slower, 3G fast but VERY patchy.
Ive been going to the gym, joined Fitness First and am putting on weight, going about 3-4 times a week and loving it! Paul should be joining at the end of the month so that's something to look forward to. Claire said she may join too so could be a very fun time! It been good going out and clubbing with Paul, Dee and Claire, and also Joobie, Claires room-mate, going to Fire, and last night Beyond, fun stuff!
Also had a minor crash on my bike recently, was merging between centre right lane to the left and managed to drive right into an island that separate the two lanes, although there was nothing on it, i failed to see it in darkness, drove into catapulting me off the bike, cracked the fairings, snapped the brake lever, bent and scraped the scraper bar, and finally ruined the front wheel, bursting the tyre and tearing the metal by a spoke.
Ebay is such a lifesaver, I got a new rim for £75 that i cleaned up. I then primered, painted, and lacquered the rim, and got the type and brake disc swapped over from a local company for a tenner and the other 3 parts i got off of ebay to for about £6-7 for the brake handle and scraper bar, sorted! i do need find someone that can repair fairings but considering the rim i did, I may have a shot at it myself...
Well i felt like i needed a new hobby and most of my family drive, My mum, Sister and brother in law, my dad used to drive but im not sure for when and how that was achieved. The only part i hate is the cost so....
£15 to tax a year, a couple of quid a week on petrol, and a neat exhilaration factor I actually have to thank a friend of mine, Pete, who took me on the back of his, and was a fantastic ride! utter fun
Been searching scrutinously for a good quote and MCE beat comparethemarket.com confused, gocompare, Swinton, Group Armour, Ebike, and lots of other companies... its a little high but overall, it doesn't seem bad at all by comparison.
Im aware of the safety factor, but its for small journeys well, SDP... that is social, domestic and pleasure
I really have to thanks may people at work, especially Nick T, Craig and his cousin, David J, Neil and Shaun for taking such a realistic and positive approach to me joining a bikers life!
I got my licence just before my birthday and passed my CBT on the 10th of June so i needed a bike ASAP and got myself a CBR 125. less than 1800 miles since it was a showroom bike, custom paint job, not a spot of rust, and after adjusting the revs slightly, its a phenomenal bike.
And security? well it has smartwater, you'll have do you your own research on that, but either way, im getting my bike back should someone have hot fingers. Also a bomb of a lock, so it ain't going nowhere!
I found a couple of gay biker association but i want something a little less compulsory, than go on every bike ride (they state) so will have to look about. Found a neat guy on fitlads who's a very alike biker to me, same height weight, and bike too, so great for understanding, although he has a little more experience than me but hey... practice makes perfect!
if you see my bike, give us a wave... oh wait, probably better not to
